What club will be brave enough to put on the British sprint champs on a non-urban area?

What club will be brave enough to put on the British sprint champs on a non-urban area?

I think the ideal sprint area would be a mix of urban and forest, a bit like this year's EOC or next year's World Champs Sprint in Finland. World Champs 2014 will obviously be urban (not much forest in Venice!). There's no reason why a British Champs Sprint organiser shouldn't use a mixed terrain area, or completely non-urban, if there is a suitable assembly arena.

Quite right Spookster - no reason. However the attitude seems to be changing so much so that loads of urban events are now advertising themselves as sprints when they clearly are not.

The WMOC sprint final in Pe=ortugal was a fantastic mix of dunes and village - I was amazed at the number of comments that it wasn't right to include the dunes

"Loads" really? You'd have approved of Croeso's description of Aberystwyth as Urban Middle Distance then...

Actually looking at the WMOC RG the urban part looks pretty dull so it wouldnt have been much of a test. I think the key thing there is that the first half of that course requires very different skills than the 2nd half. As a competitor it seems only fair to have some idea of what to train for but I suppose that would be apparent from the embargoed area?

Congratulations to Aire in realising that sprint does not have to be urban.

A little aside. When I raised the concept of an urban prologue followed by a cross country chase at a YHOA Fixtures meeting a year ago, the consensus was that the combined results should count towards the Yorkshire Urban League.

It will be interesting to see how the punters take that when it appears in the league update.

I suppose the justification is that the cross country venue was a city park - albeit a very pleasantly wooded park (just beyond the Leeds city limits).

Really? Where?

I thought we'd mostly learnt the difference between Urban (which is a description of terrain type) and Sprint (which is a description of course length and planning style), and that anything advertised as Urban Sprint, really is.

I believe that the last 2 urban events I have entered have advertised themselves a "sprint" when clearly neither were.

An AndyP if you are looking at the Portuguese WMOC final a good section of the houses were far from dull.
