The NE used to have 3 of the nicest conifer forests to run in you could desire due to the forests being planted at one time and not yet felled - Kellas, Broomly Fell and another I can't think of. Inevitably the fellers got in so I assume that these are now a patchwork of mostly felled and young replant.
Swynnerton in the West Midlands, and parts of Cannock were similar (although the NE areas had no (minimal) braken. Due to forrestry those days are now gone for ever.

The bloke I felt sorry for at BOC on Simonside was the guy who started at the same time as me and as soon as we hit the moorland opened up his A3 map (still on the way to number 1) and woosh off it went....... a long way to drive for less than 3 minutes of orienteering.
Oh I also felt sorry for the poor lady who was in the portaloo that blew over.
hop fat boy, hop!

Re: British Long
I seem to remember standing in the finish straight on day 2, wondering why I was the only person there. We had hired a car from Newcastle airport and had to have it cleaned before retuning it because of the state the carpets were in with red mud, despite having put newspaper down!

thats a lot of effluent from 6!
I remember one toilet provider stating that orienteers produced more than twice the volume of "normal" toilet users per head - maybe that added to the flow......
