Yesterday Westfield Stratford City begun their advertising campaign to attract shoppers to the charity Orienteering race. Throughout the centre there are large screens that display scrolling adverts. Each advert is displayed for 4 or 5 seconds allowing shoppers to read the important details about the event. On my website http://joshjenner.co.uk/2012/03/28/big-screen-advertising-for-orienteering-11-2/ is a photo of the widest screens available in the centre displaying the advert.
Details have also been published on the Westfield Events. See here: http://uk.westfield.com/stratfordcity/news-and-events/2012/orienteering/
Discussions are taking place with the various food outlets at the centre to offer money off vouchers for competitors.
So as well as trying a completely novel race with the Olympic Park next door, you will be able to refresh your running kit, have some food afterwards and know your entry is helping a fantastic cause. What a brilliant way to round off the Easter break!

Re: Orienteering event at Westfield Stratford City
Since the shopping centre is on 4 levels, do we know how it will be mapped? Will there be 4 maps side by side?
The website mentions a 'twist' in the planning; i.e not a normal score event - any clues?

I'm guessing something like you have to do all the red control circles before you can do the green ones and all the green ones before you can get the blue ones - or something like that.

Re: Orienteering event at Westfield Stratford City
I asked Josh to recommend a cafe at Westfield for my club to meet up for post race breakfast/brunch and he suggested:
http://www.bumpkinuk.com/restaurants/we ... t-details/
Seems nice, though of course boiled egg and soldiers + coffee will cost the same as the entry fee. Probably typical for the shopping centre.

Post-race refreshment
Sean,
I am currently trying to get some money off vouchers for some eateries. I will let you know if I manage to get anything.

Are there to be any Final Details, with any instructions / assembly area location etc.. or do we just turn up at the Underground entrance?

Even if you're getting bored of hearing about this event, you might be interested to hear how Ollie and Josh have approached the problem of mapping/planning on the multi-level shopping centre.

Orienteering event at Westfield Stratford City FANTASTIC
Thanks to JoshJenner and everyone involved:
Fantastic, amazing, superb - certainly different and unique and really enjoyable, especially the tricky 9th floor of the car park! as well as a mix of indoor and outdoor sections right next to the Olympic Park. Great map too - four levels on one map - truly 3D Orienteering.
How about The Trafford Centre - Mdoc, Bluewater, Metro centre...
