Moving to Leeds

I know this isn't particularly orienteering related but....
I've just been offered a job in Leeds :) but as I know very little about the city I was hoping to tap into the collective extensive knowledge of the Nopesport forumites and see if anyone has any particular advice about moving there... areas to avoid living in/areas good for running etc. I'll be working at the University, so would preferably like to be able to walk/run/cycle there.

Oh man! That was a helpful list of responses. I can't directly help as I'm from Bradford, not Leeds, but I would get in touch with Carol by PM (she commented on the BUCs thread). She'd been a PhD student there for a while and will have good suggestions of areas to flat hunt in and things like that. Lots of younger students live in Burley Park/Headingley, but I'm not sure where you'll find most of the other university people. Airienteers are a fantastic club, and awk is probably their most prolific nope poster. Their facebook page has a ton of stuff on, so perhaps join that and ask for advice there too.

There are a few places in the uni area I wouldn't run at night (people more currently local can probably comment on that), but the canal and various parks to the north are great for off tarmac running opportunities.

I'm still wondering what the colour coding of Neil's map indicates... :?:

Maybe
Yellow = Area ok to run in.
Red = Area ok to run fast in. :shock:

red seems to be social housing
yellow terraced housing
orange semi-detached and posh terraces.
orange hatched - offices, flat complexes etc??
Blue - upmarket from orange?
Green - downmarket from orange?
