We've covered the race the last 2 years in CompassSport Magazine. 2011 race report from last years LAMM and OMM winner. Sounds like you are not a subscriber 
I have done it 4 times. Quite a few Brits have done it over the years.
Gas you can buy at the shop at the hotel.
It is mass start but only 400 people.
The map is very simplistic and large contour interval means it is a bit of a fiction.
Quality of the field I would say drops off a lot after the top 10 quite a lot.
Buy some back issue sof the mag and read all about it and see extracts of the map - there is essentially only one they use and the finish is always in the same place.
