Assuming she knows that she doesn't understand elite orienteering, its a better appointment than someone who doesn't know that. And if she can follow Martin's example and dig another Scott Fraser out of her running club, well, that would be enough already.

I've always not been in favour of non orienteers coaching elite orienteering... elite orienteers need someone who understands the concepts. I have always claimed that GB orienteers are fit / fast enough & need good endurance support.... so maybe this new appointment has a bit of good in it

surely to be really good at O you need two coaches who work well together, one for technical and one for physical. I guess there are some who could do both but most probably not.
