You are all wrong re:the Army Guy. It is basically a web-cam connected to a mobile phone. After the guy starts, he gets away from the start and takes a photo of the map which he e-mails to Dave Rollins who is sat at home at his computer. He opens the file and prints off a map. The competitor keeps moving and has maybe done the first couple of controls by the time Dave is set up. Then, using the webcam streaming live pictures back to Dave's computer and an ear piece headset, the competitor gets voice instructions from coach Rollins If Dave can see competitor P drifting off line or hasnt quite got into the correct block of forest, advice is given. Dave will also check ahead for routechoice options and advise that, for eg, left track is X m longer but Y m less climb than the right.
Further development is due to include live GPS so the Web Cam will become obsolete.
That's why cameras and mobiles with cameras will soon be band from O events.
