Technically very challenging courses on Bigland, and pretty steep and rocky too, so mistakes could be costly. Very enjoyable though.

Scott and Hollie in a different class - though everyone made mistakes.

Programme this year has sprint heat and final on one day, Long final the next, rest day to Middle. Makes it hard to combine Long with any other discipline. Will be interesting to see if any athletes/selectors think it sensible to try.

It was an epic race on Holme Fell today. Really blustery but thankfully the worst of the rain held off. And a proper length elite course, with only the top three men breaking 100 minutes. Really pleased to see Oli win this week, after all the work he and Jenny put into BOC last weekend.

Claire's excellent form continues as well, with a win by 3 minutes.

Since Routegadget for M/W21E isn't working yet, here's a variety of route options I can see now. What I actually ran was half way down the path by the road, then cut up onto the tops, but it wasn't good.

Only the 1:10 map has the southern tip of the area, so the route that stays low all the way until the last huge climb would have been off the 1:15 map.

Looking at it now, I guess along the ridge but to the right of the tops was probably best.

You could almost do the route all the way around to the east and south without going off the 1:15 map, if you go only just south of the last big crag before you start the climb. [Otherwise I look forward to someone reading nopesport who can quote chapter and verse on the rules regarding running off the map....]

I hadn't even considered the routes via the start / finish. I'd be interested to know if the planner had. I am not sure they are allowed. The final details were quite clear that if the line between the controls was broken, and bent, that meant you had to go through the crossing points it was bent through. And on this long leg it sent you east of the big OOB area.

Myself, I went diagonally up onto the top of the moor, round the east side of the craggy hill tops, where an excellent elephant track was forming (later used for #13 to #14), and through a gap in the long line of crags (100m north of the trig point). Quite pleased with it.

I can see the Holme Fell Routegadget for all classes except M and W21E. On the index it shows 1 person has put a route on M21E so presumably it's working for some people, but when I click on it no course or route comes up. Any idea why, or what I'm doing wrong?

It wasn't working correctly for M21E and W21E because of the butterfly loops.

I offered to fix it by adjusting the results file to put all runners onto the same butterfly. LOC sent me the files last night, and I've uploaded it tonight.

Go ahead and upload your routes, and let's see how many different options there were for the 2.5km long leg.
