yup, he did both last 6days and the PWT last year, but he was already booked up for the 6 day week this year. I really hope we can find some enthusiastic UK based orienteer(s?) who have aspirations for commentary/media..
I reckon there could be a fair amount for work available over the next 4+ years to someone who proves they have the ambition/basic skills now.

Any media students out there who know orienteering? Want to get into TV? Doing 6day (or another big event) commentary and working with a big screen could help pave the way.

Agree with Andy - JK2012 and Moray 2013 are just two of the events I am dealing with after Oban 2011. Still to be confirmed but our bid for WOC2015 should be aired on March 8th on the Adventure Show BBC2 Scotland with follow up on iplayer.

As I remember it, Per was not working on his own at Tayside 2009.
A lot of the time we were listening to the British commentators - Andy Monro et al - I believe.
They were and are every bit as good and they know their British orienteering. They have done the British champs and JK on numerous occasions.
Although Per was good in Perth at the PWT he was lacking at the 6-Day - he did not do enough homework and relied too much on his undoubted "gift of the gap".

Per was the paid professional but he had Mharky and eddie helping him out

Announcement will be made shortly on the 6 day website but we have selected Goggi (Wolfgang Poetsch) to provide commentary at the 6 Day. This will be on a professional basis, funded through Event Scotland. One of our top amateur commentators has already been signed up to provide support part time, and we will refund entry fees. Our budget stretches to pay entry fees for another 2 commentators - if we don't spend we don't get. We recognise that there is a fine line between paid help at events (for example computing help) and volunteering and there are no easy answers as to what is best for the sport. Come the next event, where we may not have extra funding, it might be back to pure volunteer effort. Anybody who would like to join in at Oban, please let me know. Assuming a reasonable level of help/commitment we will refund two of you.
