Think the splits maybe arent right on course 3 at least - poss because there is an extra control (14) at the end of the taped route?

Do you mean course 4? Either poor memory or definitely should be DQ'd.

I apologise
. I looked through quickly and saw the purple line as the route. Clearly not OOB.

Re: JK2011 - Day 1 Route Gadget
Just used RunOway to upload yesterdays Sprint action and I have to say Routegadget is a superior product. RG has a nice 'undo' button which just undos the last line 'clicked' whereas RO deletes the whole leg! meaning small mistakes you think, sod it I'll just carry on - this will take me for ever! So my line does small 'unlawful' things in places - but it doesnt mean I did that - I just can't be bothered to change it! And that is my point - just because a person sticks their route up, doesnt actually mean it is accurate. Mouse clicks slip and people also forget what they did/where they run. So it could be easy to start crucifying people for their route when actually, they had gone round the flower bed, etc etc.

Agree, Routegadget is great, but also remember that people can draw other peoples' routes if they want to (there is no checking that you really are the person who ran the route). Occasionally some quite "interesting" routes get put up by people being mischievious.
Unlike published split times, I don't think you can draw any conclusions about a runner having done something illegal from Routegadget.

I agree with the above sentiments regarding the accuracy of peoples route/memory on routegadget. This is further compounded if using GPS plots.
I have tried to upload a GPS plot into routegadget for Sprint races and gave up as I basically had to redraw it. Seems to need less faffing around with middle/classic distance maps.

I think also the maps used on the routegadget can differ from the ones used in competition - certainly over printed OOBs don't seem to get marked which can lead to some very odd looking route choices.
Someone told me on the day there was an oddity on some of the maps which might cause a problem - maybe this is it

There was a bit of debate at 10mila at the weekend about GPS showing runners going out of bounds (this is with a GPS the top teams were forced to carry to give live tracking). Matthias Müller's track showed him going OOB. This is his response (translated), basically saying you can't trust the GPS: http://translate.google.com/translate?u ... uage_tools

I remember watching Jamie's GPS track live when GBR were about to win Gold in the relay, and being horrified that he appeared to be missing one of the last controls. Of course he hadn't, and it was the GPS that was off.

I seem to remember that. Did he appear to pull short on a re-entrant. The control circle was much further up on the map, whilst his GPS plot finished short?

Re: JK2011 - Day 1 Route Gadget
GPS has errors - fact. If you want accuracy you probably need differential GPS
Some details here:

Something we looked at when replacing instrument landing systems for aircraft a few years back. A GPS use where absolute accuracy will be pretty important.
