OOB colours

I am aware that a line of crosses along a line feature means that youmay not run along said feature. Does a single cross have the same meaning? - I certainly never saw any, but there again they did not impinge on my course.

I'm not sure it does Eddie. I've seen a short thick purple line used for this (St Andrews maybe?) before but not a cross.

For urban a purple diagnonal screen overprint seems to be the norm these days for something you cannot run along rather than a line of crosses (eg PWT in Perth)

I think Eddie is refering to crosses as per STAG's recent SoSOL event at Palacerigg Country Park. The St Andrews event last September used an OOB shading, which allowed running along the adjacent pavements.

In OCAD it's possible to frame control numbers and connecting lines (and possibly other symbols) with a white border ...

CONDES has this option too for control numbers, but not lines.

Nothing to do with the original (very serious) topic, but I did wonder whether these colours (picture from the BO website of JK day 2 and no offence intended), should not be declared OOB

No need to be so harsh on those colours - they look like standard Army issue to me!

Back to the red "X"s.

Looking at ISSOM: there is NO mention of red crosses (that I can see), so they can be used for whatever use the planner tells you they are for, and if he doesn't tell you then presumably you have cause for complaint.

ISOM rules OTOH has:
711 Forbidden route
A route which is out-of-bounds is shown with crosses

Note that this means you can't use the route - NOT That you can't cross it!

If a road has fence, hedge and/or wall on one of its sides then you can use 707 Uncrossable boundary to make it clear you can't cross the road, but otherwise there is no standard symbol in ISOM or ISSOM for "Thou must not cross this road".

OOB has to be used instead or you make it clear in the rules that red "X"s will be used for a road that you can't cross nor run along.

Incidently this exact thing came up in the World SkiO champs when they marked a road with "X"s and then complained when people crossed it rather than using the high bridge.

JK, on my screen the legs look distinctly bright pink. Not sure which army has that as standard issue??
