Gosh I hadn't ever realised there was a speed/bastard correlation is it built into the algorythm - makes you kind of proud to be slow

This surely is a good move and by making the lists more inclusive rankings will become more interesting as a result.
Since the new level C is intended to cover exactly the same events as the old level 2 this will only have an effect for those of us living in regions that were boycotting the old system. Orienteers who run most in Northwest and Anglia regions will get more chances to score ranking points so may climb above some from Yorkshire and the Midlands who already had that opportunity.

A correct observation Pete. I would not however have used the word "Boycotting".
What many clubs were doing was interpreting the old level 2 rules more strictly than others. They didn't buy into rules that suggested "you should but you need not".
Many of our Sunday morning old style District events utilise areas and maps that are very familiar to regular orienteers ~the same venues often get used every season.
With careful planning a familiar area can of course still be a challenging experience. We took the view however that level 2 was really more appropriate for the high profile Regional fixture. Our regional Championship, our multi-days.
Many clubs therefore,( not just NW & EA regions) decided to leave their old District events where BOF put them (in level 3).
What the 3-tier structure lacked was a natural home for these regular Sunday morning District event Fixtures. Level C can now however satisfy that need. I am quite content that these events will now be included in the ranking scheme.
Our club will therefore be staging 3 or 4 level C ranking events a year as from 1st January 2011 ~ Previously we have only staged 3 Regional ranking events in the last 10 years !

......mistakenly (BOF, not the associations, who simply followed the BOF lead).

Without wanting to drag over old coals - quite a lot of us DID think they had a natural home, and I for one don't see the current split adding anything to the system. Indeed, it has already created some confusion. We've got it, it'll work, but no better than what we would have had if the previous system had been left to bed in properly.
