Thanks Ollie, that's helped. Having looked at the link your software generates, and discovered the "name=" tag, I now have my links to bing maps working as well as the old multimap links used to.
I'm now using, to take Paul's example from earlier:
http://www.bing.com/maps/?lvl=14&style= ... a,%2028Nov

It's never crossed my mind to reclaim my entry fee when I have been unable to run through illness of injury or any other reason.
I'm quite sure, if I asked, most clubs would give a refund - but it is dealing with individual situtions like this that eats up volunteer time. For that reason I will still not be claiming back unused per-entry fees.
