Why such a short start time window?

Interesting points of view. It would seem that my family and I are in the minority for a longer start window though I appreciate all the logistical factors and extra manpower reqd. I once ran a small midweek summer event on behalf of the army summer series that started at 1200 hrs and would normally have closed by 4 pm. On this occassion we kept the courses open until 8pm (!) and attracted another 80 competitors in addition to the 80 or so military personnel that started early. It was though a very long day and we lost one control to vandalism late in the day.
