well it says the closing date was yesterday but they still seem to be accepting entries today - so get yours in - this is going to be brilliant - three days on Penhale and the forecast is good!
I'm fascinated by the amount of course hopping going on because Day 1 is advertised as a middle distance race - which hopefully it will be - not a short long course . Presumably people feel liberated by the colour coded format - would they have stuck to their age-classes if it had been advertised that way instead?

Yes, we're still taking entries via Fabian4, but it'll cost you £2 extra per day now. We are likely to be deciding on map numbers in a day or so. At that point, I will set the course entry limits so, if you want to be sure of your first choice, enter today or tomorrow.

Re: Tamar Triple
Really enjoyed this event, three days on one of the best orienteering areas in the UK, in one of the best holiday areas.
Only slight disappointment was the age of some of the map. As Gross would no doubt tell me, I should use contours for navigation and not worry about the inaccurate paths and thickets. In which case, why not remove the paths from the map altogether, since they only had about a 50% correlation with reality?
But I don't want to turn this into a whinge, just to say thanks to all concerned for putting it on.

Would've been even better if they had put the day 3 controls in the right place!

Thanks for the positive comments. It makes it all worthwhile for the amount of effort put in by all the officials, and all the members of Devon & KERNO who helped out before and during the event. It's a shame that the last contributor didn't make known their concerns on control placement to the correct official (ie the Controller) on Day 3 so that they could be properly investigated on the day, rather than choosing to make a broad brush comment on the web.

Were you the controller?? Quite a few of us who regularly run elite courses ran the Black and all agreed on 3/4 controls in the wrong place.
No.1 The only disputed one - a lot of us lost time seemed to be too short to me, I don't think the map was quite right.
No.10 - A complete joke, it wasn't even hung in the circle!
No.16 - On the wrong hill.
No.21 - Tagged in the right place but hung in the wrong place.
I personally think it is terrible for British orienteering that you can have an event where there is a controller and have at least 3 controls quite clearly in the wrong place, it just shouldn't happen and I don't understand why it has. The sites should have been checked by the planner and controller, then hung and again checked by the controller, where is there scope for such large errors?
Anyway when we finished a few of us went to speak to the controller but he wasn't around so we spoke to the planner instead and told him all of the misplaced controls, he said he would go out and investigate, so again I'm astounded that the information wasn't passed on to the controller.
I know all the people are volunteers so don't really want to have a go at these people, generally it was a good weekend of orienteering but I think some things really need to be improved. If a controller can make so many mistakes in one event maybe they need some more training and maybe BOF needs to reassess its qualifications.

Re: Tamar Triple
Is there a reason why the results have been entered onto the BO website for the Saturday and Monday's racing, but not the Sunday's?
Thanks

Glad to hear it.
Disappointed not to see a response from grumpy, especially if grumpy was the controller!

If I was 'grumpy' I'm not sure I would ever volunteer to control again! Your comments (those from frustrated) are of the sort that should be made in person even if it ment waiting a little longer until the Controller was available to speak to. In the mean time you could have volunteered to collect controls.
Well done the Southwest for another superb weekend of O so soon after the JK.
