Re: York
We really enjoyed the York Race today, easily the best Urban racing in some while! Route choices and fiendish snickleways afforded the opportunity to lose or gain vital seconds and I'm still kicking myself for not going through the accessible door on the college campus! Thankyou to Steve and Yasha for excellent planning, and to the EBOR team once again!
Mrs H was in the South West this weekend, normal service will be resumed at the next event!

Re: York
Great event!
Controls were well placed, leading to some tough route choice decisions and catching some people out (control 68 was a good one!).
I think earlier runners may have had an advantage as later on there were tourists swarming everywhere! Especially down 'The Shambles', unfortunately I didn't realise what street it was until I was there and ended up diving, leaping and twisting round all the people to get to the snickleway where my control was! Should have gone round...
I also am kicking myself for not going through the door, marked as a canopy, that was closed, but not locked, at York St. John's Uni.
Great job EBOR! I thoroughly enjoyed today.

Re: York
Another superb event following on from Claro's race at Ripon - two very different styles, both excellent in their own way (and both 'local'!). This was the best York race I've done (only started 5 years ago, but a very experienced Eborienteer reckoned this was the best since the first one ten (?) years ago), and can only concur with all the technical comments above. Thank you to all involved.
(Amazing how many were caught out by control 7 on the A course - the planners must have been delighted!).

Great event, really glad we stopped off for it on the way back from Scotland.
Routegadget is up already. I wonder if the person who apparently used the scaffolding to get down off the city walls adjacent to control 73 (distinctive tree) will draw their route on...

the H's were at Tamar Triple but there was good news for Mrs H as her main rival didn't pick up points either. Bad news was that it did gave me a chance to close down on Mr H for the Red Wine and Cake bet - make sure you know where the recipe book is Mrs H

Seriously though agree with Awk's post 2 great races entirely different in character but both great - well done Claro and EBOR.
Interesing point today was the number of competitors who, like Garnon, did not take the entirely legal route through the building disadvanaing themselves because they weren't sure it was OK

Even more interesting Mike because on both occasions (the Ripon uncrossable wall, and the York go-able corridor) the map told us accurately what we could and couldn't do.
Did someone really Spookster? I know we were joking about it.....!

Re: York
Awk,
yes, very true and I talked to some real beginners to ISSOM who didn't go through the legitimate route "because it didn't seem right". A couple of them were also reluctant to jump over gray walls "in case that wasn't allowed". I well remember being ticked off (very nicely) by srollins once cos I was dripping wet and there was no light blue water on the map only dark blue
I learnt about colours of water on ISSOM from that and was even able to pass on the tip to the planner and controller of an event downunder some time later (nothing important, only the national sprint champs
)
There is an education element here methinks, particularly as surban races seem to attract newcomers that don't come from family or school/university in as many stalwarts do/did and may not have a mentorshowing them round and talking through the subtleties like Eddie was doing today with some beginners

Apparently they did.
The organisers took the sensible step of adding extra emphasis to the particular features that were not allowed to be crossed, on the maps in the start lanes.
It's good that beginners are turning up at urban events to have a go (and in fact a rower turned up at the start today, wanting to have a go at the next event), but we have to keep educating them - freerunning / parkour etc aren't allowed!
