Point taken Sean, It's just that I'm really into maps etc and the aforementioned site is the best I've found so far for detailed maps. If anybody does know how to download from the site or know of any other site please pm me. Thanks for your time anyway.

You just need to provide a valid email address, so no need for usernames and passwords. They send you download links to the data you have requested. Those links are then only valid for three days. The download speed of the huge files is fairly slow, which I guess means that they can cope with the large number of current requests they are getting.

Hi Spookster, already tried the os site but at present it only go's down to 1:10 000 scale, the Elgin site go's down to 1:2500, 1:1250 etc which I'm interested in. Thanks for taking time to reply.

Re: OS maps to go free online
So how does the OS maps now being free affect the BO OS licence?
Say if I used the "Land-Form PANORAMA" OS map to get the contours for a new map, would I still have to include the copyright info on the map when it is printed?

You will definitely need to continue to include a copyright attribution statement - OS haven't renounced their copyright on the OpenData datasets, and including an attirbution statement is a requirement of the (admirably concise) OpenData licence.
