I think "stupid" is too harsh gusting offensive.
I didn't release that Scotland had different school holidays than England it would never have entered my head - it may be an unintentional oversight (and one many of us would make) but stupid....I think not.

Re: Lakes 5 Day
If it have been two weeks earlier there would have been three people entering lakes 5 days rahter than one at White rose.
The kids are at with their mum for the later part of the school holidays, so can go to neither. Boo Hoo!!!

I was considering going too, with the kids, until I realised it was after the schools went back.

Re: Lakes 5 Day
Maybe the organisers were more worried about how many key people they were going to lose to the World Masters rather than how many punters.
I've heard it said that not all of the Lakeland orienteering fraternity think it's a good idea to attract vast numbers into the area at a congested time of the year and tying up good areas in the process.

I'll be interested to see how many people from the World Masters go to the Lakes 5 Day - we agree that there are a lot of Scottish families who would have gone, and aren't convinced the earlier date would have excluded as many people.
It doesn't say whether it was the competitors who were going to the World Masters, or the co-ordinator / planners / controllers /organisers...

Think of the potential extra entries (and revenue to the event and ecomony etc) from all those families (and teachers???!!!) for holding the event 2 weeks earlier.
Anyone know of any reason why is HAS to be this week and exclude potentially every family from Scotland?????...seems a bit stupid to me!!
You may have answered your own question

I'm Scottish and will be there; Kurrikulum for Eggsellence left behind as a bunch of poorly mapped Rhododendron clumps.

I'm intending to go to both the World Masters and the Lakes 5, but will probably miss the White Rose - the brain might like five consecutive days, but the body needs rest days!

Selfishly I am pleased they don't clash as I intend to do both + probably the White Rose as 3 events in a day rather appeals to me

Re: Lakes 5 Day
Everything clashes with something else these days.
I'm glad it's not a week earlier as I have work commitments then, but sad that it clashes with the start of the Terrex Adventure Race, starting in the Lakes at the end of the same week.
Looking forward to it though as the last one in 2006 was brilliant.
Anyone know if there will be an MTBO on the rest day this time?

I'm doing the first 3 days of the lakes then Terrex starting on the Friday. For anyone interested, there's a FREE prologue open to anyone on the Thursday evening (rest day) in Keswick, more details at http://www.adidas-ar.com/prologue/index.htm
