What threw me was the fact that the controls didn't pop up as they normally do when you select the course, you had to select your name as well for it to load up.

I am pretty sure it is because routegadget is set up in butterfly loop mode. On that basis RG doesn't know which specific route to draw until the competitor is selected. (You see the same thing with score events on RG- making it useful for score analysis even without drawn routes).

Another disadvantage is that you don't get control numbering as this may vary from competitor to competitor.

A small advantage for mispunchers like myself is that routegadget allows you to draw a route between the controls you actually visited rather than those you were supposed to visit. (Excepting any controls that autodownload stripped out in generating results).
