Portuguese O'meet started today with a goodly amount of UK Orienteers out in the sun (although last I heard it was warmer in Vancouver!)
Large group from Sheffield (and assorted hangers-on

) out there. Some good runs.
Hubmanns won Men's day 1. Scotia 4th, GG 12th, Northrop 23rd, Speaky 26th, Schorah 32nd, Shminty 35th. Some well known WOC runners well down in the overall standings as well!

as yet no sign of the womens' elite results, RG etc.

Some more bigger names turned up today, whilst others were evidently puntering yesterday! TG and Simone take the honours in the Middle Race WRE, but still some good results from the sizable British contingent. Not heard about the weather today yet...

It would be fair to say that the weather here in Portugal is 'disappointing'. :cry:

265 starters on the Men's Elite at yesterday's Middle Race WRE made this one of the largest and strongest WRE fields ever? Messrs Fraser and Gristwood were within 2:30 of Thierry Georgiou, yet were placed at 16th and 19th, showing just how strong the competition was.

Having to have a 1 minute start interval posed some problems for the organisers who solved this by having a butterfly section early in the course - it will be interesting to see how effective this was in breaking up potential groups. Seemed too early in the course to me ...

And yes, the weather would be normal for a "standard" UK winter but it's unseasonably cold by Portuguese standards - and today was damp at times too. But, as we've come to expect, this year's POM has been excellently organised and has attracted competitors from 28 nations as a result of its growing reputation. And last night's banquet was 5* too.
