Would it be fair to say that the majority of competitive teams will be running in packs/lines for most of their course, therefore have less of a need for reflective controls for a few reasons - they are "competitive", ie, more competent orienteers, they have the benefit of lots of headtorches to spot a control and the pack running benefit of being less likely to miss a control?
I would have thought that reflective strips help the people who are not running with others more than those who are, and those are the people who will have more problems finding the controls. Therefore the greatest impact would be to those runners, resulting in longer errors, more teams in the mass start and running night legs at dawn etc and less enjoyment for the average/occasional orienteer.
