... so says a Daily Telegraph article this weekend (see http://www.telegraph.co.uk/active/62618 ... utumn.html)
However, not as good news as you might think when you read the text that accompanies it:
Another great one for families, orienteering involves a good walk, some mental stimulation and teamwork. The Sport England-supported British Orienteering will steer you towards a list of fixed routes designed for beginners. Our tip is to sneak out the day before departure and hide "treasure" at way points – anything from buried chocolate bars to cold, hard cash should get couch potatoes moving.

Yep, there might be some downside to the list..... but there is a huge positive there. Orienteering is listed in a top ten 'activities'. If one of the families spots your club's advert somewhere for one of your events they might just give it a try. More than likely they will have forgotten all about what the 'article' said.... and just get on with the activity that you have to offer.
We certainly, as a sport, and as a group of clubs, have to learn how to market ourselves and what we have to offer. We don't do a very good job do we?..... so I think we should look at any publicity as worth having, certainly publicity of that nature. There are some things we could do without..... but we don't need to go there!!
