Nopesport Urban League 2009

Re: Nopesport Urban League 2009
... I too would like to see an up to date list of all Urban sprint Races. The BOF fixtures list is a joke ...
I think this is a bit harsh. Selecting "Regional" and "Urban" gives Cambridge / Oxford / Edinburgh / Huntingdon / Warwick. "Local" adds in Chester and many smaller events. Seems to me to be working quite well.
You may have a more valid gripe with event organisers, if they either register events late or mis-classify!

Re: Nopesport Urban League 2009
Oh look - the Carlisle event on February 6th is listed as part of the nopesport league?
So have any more events been selected for next year (that is what I really want to know). Mind you I don't think I could do the long journey north two weekends in a row

WAOC will be asking Nopers to nominate the Huntingdon Urban race for the league next year. New GG map should be ready by then.
Saturday March 20th - the day before the national event at Belvoir Castle. Hopefully a good weekend of orienteering with the two events just a short drive up the A1 away from each other.

Definitely like urban right now - ground hard as concrete and height well over 2m in our local maize - but by event date... hmmm, depends on rain and soil.
From an absolutely selfish point of view does anybody know if this is a midlands mud field or a cannock sand field?

"Not a clash really and a minor consideration I know but I'm guessing that would be back to Uni weekend and although I wouldn't be facing the mountain of stuff cluttering up the hall way at the moment - a double drop off would still be a fairly major operation in this household."
According to the Edinburgh Uni website, the 2nd semester starts on the 11th Jan, so the students will presumably be back by the 16th ?
Any other reasons why not the 16th / 17th ?

I have been informed that NopeSort will not make a decision on 2010 events until November, so I suspect Carlisle inclusion is aspirational rather than confirmed.
Wwe have requested inclusion of a Chasing Sprint on Birmingham University campus, but having originally been misinformed (not by Nope) about available dates the one agreed with the uni authorities now has to be changed, and we are still trying to finalise this.

Sorry Mike but it doesn't have the same ring to it as Oxford, London, Edinburgh, York et al. But then perhaps it's changed for the better in the 14 odd years since we moved out.

I understand urban orienteering now. Orienteering where there is an M and S, or for real top urban events, must have a Harvey Nicks.

For every winner, there are dozens of losers. Odds are you're one of them.

Huntingdon has a very good Lidl. And the Poundshop is to die for.
Birth place of Oliver Cromwell as well. Now that's real class.

Re Maize Maze 0
It was a Midlands Mud Field, but work by Tom the farmer & a dry September have dried it out well...
Grabbing an opportunity for shameless self promotion when it presents itself...it will be awesome! We had a training event there on Tuesday evening to test-run the area and find problems before an open event, & it was fantastic! "More intense than London" was one comment on the finish line another by email was "Although we were a bit skeptical beforehand, we thoroughly enjoyed it! I for one really struggled to keep my head together from control to control as it was so intense- my route gadget would be hilarious". You were never able to get up to full running speed because of all the twists & turns & the 0.9km course (straight line route) had an optimum running distance of 2.4km with a winning time from a former BOC M21L champion of over 17 minutes, and that was in daylight!
Flier for our event:

and a sneak look at a veryblown up bit of the 1:1,00 map:
Other bits & pieces planned to make the afternoon/evening fun, but 3 races for £6 on a map you will never get the chance to run on again...

Indeed, the Midland Champs then.. going to some of the more interesting parts of Belvoir that have not been used recently.
Should make a great weekend.
Having found significant challenge around the Ibstock Coop recently. I'd be looking forward to Huntingdon Lidl. The Cambridge race should consider Mill Road as well..
