Re: WORLD ATHLETICS
Don't confuse technique with equipment, they don't have race walking where you can use the fastest type of body...

Ah, I thought by "granny ring" you meant the equipment, not the body part...

Re: WORLD ATHLETICS
Let's be careful what sports we call "ridiculous". We like to call trail orienteering a sport, and its participants "athletes" which outsiders might find amusing. Race walking, like trail orienteering, has its genuine enthusiasts, and has, In my opinion, a better claim to be a sport. But they both serve a purpose and long may they both live.

Re: WORLD ATHLETICS
I agree with Gross (someone has to for once). Trail-O isn't a really sport, its a mental challenge. People sometimes liken orienteering to doing the Times crossword whilst running for the train; well Trail-O is like just doing the crossword bit, albeit probably a cryptic crossword. (I'm not saying its not a worthy thing to do mind, I'm just saying it isn't a sport)

Re: WORLD ATHLETICS
I think some orienteers of fairly high repute have done race walking. I may be wrong but I think Ravenous did it at least once and young Halliday too.
Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

The late Nigel Thompson, (Don Thompson's brother) was a fine race walker in his earlier years.

Why not start up wheel-chair orienteering?

Re: WORLD ATHLETICS
Some mechanical contraption with wheels and a seat, propelling yourself round a forest looking for markers?
It would never catch on
Meanwhile, back at the world athletics - will Bolt ever get so dominant that he's as boring as Bekele?
