How did people get on? I made a couple of stupid mistakes that cost me about 15 minutes which was annoying as I feel I spend so much time orienteering round slow going Scottish forests that I should have had an advantage here but as usual I started messing up when there were alot of people around me and I was trying to look competetive and veering off bearing a bit and ending up in the wrong bit of white in the light green.
Son had similar problems.
Interesting orienteering though and a good course. Shame I wasn't up to it.

Re: Day 1 of the 6 days
Thanks for getting results up so us non-participants can see
Looked at M21E on routegadet... couldn't quite understand the planning, seemed a lot of the forest was avoided (sure there was a good reason). But one question? Who took the route on the moor along the fence line for the long leg, or was there something to tell runners to stay in the forest?
Good luck with the forests and weather for the rest of the week

Gross: The Map was overmarked with OOB along on the moor side of the fence. quite a few people ran just inside the fence, not sure what it was like though.

A really good forest - unless you were on the yellow start. Apparantly that boulder studded white on the lower parts of the area had been recently brashed and was somewhat hellish.
My course stuck to the higher ground and was excellent.

Re: Day 1 of the 6 days
GRoss: Forest was severely thinned in early spring, and deadlines got compressed. The bits on the map which look nice but weren't used are generally horrible, brashed and not remapped. Routegadget doesn't show OOB - don't know why. We didnt have permission for the western moorland, so "between fence and wall" was legal, though not best on 15-16. Some did that on 5-6 too.

eh? it was obscured by the purple line on my map, which is why I didn't use it!
