Congratulations to Joan Noble and INVOC on a fantastically planned event on one of the UKs best areas yesterday.
Sad to miss the British M Champs, but with an event of this qualty on my doorstep it is hard to justify travelling all that way.
Combine the British middle and sprint (age groups) and I would make the effort. I imagine that applies to many other contenders - and quality competition (field as well as terrain/planning) is the only way to raise the profile.

Quite agree Eddie. It was indeed a terrific bit of planning and well done to INVOC for putting on a great event, made all the better by a great parking location and proper May weather. I thought I'd had a bit of a disaster but it seems that I wasn't the only one.

INVOC colour codeds are amazing. It might be the easiest place to win brown courses?
Ally (Achnasoul March 2007) & Drew Brunton (Dallaschyle last weekend!) & myself (Creag Leach October 2007) have all now managed to win brown courses in INVOC colour codeds!
We are very proud about this and I wanted to note it here
Looking forward to having a Bruntons v Palmer race off on an INVOC Brown course soon, maybe in the autumn - will have to check the INVOC fixtures... Something VERY important to train for!

Agreed Eddie, and certainly well worth the trip from Deeside. Full on high quality technical stuff interspersed with a plentiful supply of nice sunlit runnable forest. Slightly surprised that it hasn’t been used for something more significant in recent years ( or maybe we just missed it). The 140 folk on Sunday were privileged!

Hmm, isn’t that somewhat disrespectful to all those other brown course competitors? On the other hand I wouldn’t get too carried away you Bruntons and Palmers either – take a look at the average age of the top ten on Sundays Brown course. Drew should be thoroughly ashamed of himself for beating a bunch of 50+ year olds by only 2 minutes.

hmm... http://www.invoc.org.uk/results/craigle ... sults.html ?
and the fastest runners are not always on brown...

re the Dallashyle results, a bit depressing to see only 1 competitor born in the 80s and only 2 in the 70s....

Drew lives on boats for 6 weeks at a time. We all respect the INVOC region's M50+s and his victory was hard won, with hours of boat confined treadmill running in preparation!
Can't speak for Ally but my win was also hard fought amongst endless* hours of thesis writing. It's not so easy to beat Harwood et al. on their home ground but it's easier than winning a Brown at a SoSOL (one of Ally's goals he has yet to achieve) or in Middle England: OD/NOC/SYO land where there are many hungry M21s. Also much more enjoyable / challenging orienteering on offer in INVOC land! (and far less brambles)
* not actually endless, in the end there was an end

Didn't Siggi Gould come 3rd on Sunday?
One of Britain's most talented orienteers ever.
He could've been World Champion! If only he'd spent less time hanging round with that Dids fellow.

Nope, there are definitely easier places, although the orienteering is probably not quite as challenging.

The ethos of Colour coded events for me is somewhat based upon the Local Hero concept and feel that everybody has lost the plot.
Go to quality area, Run, Enjoy, Go home.
I was a bit gutted to miss the evening event at utah lochan tonight but managed to bag rogie evening event and dallaschyle in the same week thats the real result.
That was my first proper orienteering events for almost 2 years bar some random training I went to back in March (actually it might be more like 3/4 years).

Rogie too! Such a good combination of tough & technical and also fast & technical areas up there! You are probably making everyone sick with O envy. Although at least the English have an urban O scene now to give the bramble scratches time to heal.
Drew you are on a comeback! But not many non-orienteers do contour only training on Christmas Day
