The local press has got itself all in a huff about the sighting of a bear in Rendlsham Forest (one of Suffolk's largest forests). I've spent many, many happy hours mapping there and never seen one. I've encountered a few too many adders few my liking (ie more than 0), but otherwise the only danger in the forest are wet brashings and the east wind (we had several case of borderline hypothermia last Autumn when snow turned in to driving, freezing rain).
It now been revealed as a hoax, (one of the Youtube picture is definately a muntjac) just a bit early for April.
PS Rendlesham is also the scene of the "UFO landing" in 1980. Another hoax but the local rag likes to big it up every couple of years on a slow day - and there are still some
l(y)ocals who seem to believe it big time.
