Personally I will never add much to the quality of these fields. That's maybe why I favour attracting more local competitors to more local events.

I just got my first taste of "urban style" orienteering at the UWOC/OD event at Warwick Uni a few weeks back, and now I WANT MORE! (Thanks guys!)

Now I'm wondering why I agreed to go on holiday in October; I'm pig sick to be missing the Chester event (the most local to me). Might have to break my travelling limit a bit...

Here's to more clashes of dates if it means more events to choose from!

Seabird, I am taking this as a compliment and suggest you do likewise! Can anyone direct me to the definitive list of NOPE urban races please?

I'm surprised the Claro organisers decided to go ahead with the clashing date because they have apparently gone to the trouble and expense of getting the map produced professionally, and presumably need to optimise income to recover costs.

I can assure you they did (my OH is on the club committee). They felt, I gather, that the event was well enough established and saw that it had increased in size last year even with the clash.

Your word "interference" is surprising. Is the BOF organisation really so much of an administrative / beaurocratic monster that it's worthwhile putting on events randomly, for a relatively small audience, but still risking clashes?

It would be interference if both sets of organisers have gone ahead in the knowledge there was a clash, but still prepared to go with that date, if BOF then stepped in and 'co-ordinated' them to different dates; nothing to do with the administration or bureaucracy involved. It's not just possible clashes that dictate what dates clubs want to use. Neither event was put on randomly - they were both organised on the same date last year, and the Claro fixture has been on that date for a few years.
