Just like to say a good event, shame about the weather. The wild life park was a great 'event centre' , it's not often you hear roaring animals when orienteering, usually it's gasping pyjama clad old men. The pagoda at the start was very much appreciated. I've never snuggled so close to so many men
The wood was more runnable than mapped, shame I didn't know that from the start.

I enjoyed the orienteering, especially as a 12.10 start block meant that we ran in the dry and even sun! However the sight of a fully grown male tiger being tickled on its nose and standing on its back legs a couple of metres away from me in the animal park afterwards, rather put the rest in the shade. Many thanks to CHIG, it must have been a really cold, wet miserable job being an official for the first half of the event.

I can't quite remember what Mrs H's phrase is 'Extra Value orienteering'?Added value? but this event certainly had it

I thought the event facilities and additional entertainment included in the price were the best ever. Just needed hot showers to be perfect.

And the forest was good too, always that won't be what I remember the event for. Well done CHIG.

Yes a much nicer forest that the initial green-looking map suggested.

How did people find that the start block system worked given the wet weather? Was there much queuing or hanging around going on? I had a late start so there were not may others around. The final details stated that club members would not be allowed to start within four minutes of each other on the same course, but a quick glimpse at Winsplits suggests that this rule was not enforced rigorously, if at all.

A really enjoyable event, but I remain unconvinced by the advantages of 'block starts' rather than being given a specific start time. On a very cold and extremely wet day, with an early start, it meant lots of hanging around and then queuing. It kind of negates the usefullness of warming up.

I think a combination of both is best. If the weather is bad and you arrive before your alloted start time and there is a free slot, the officials allow you to start. This happened on the last day of the recent Welsh 6 days and at Greenham last Sunday. I think you call it flexibility.

Down here in the south open starts seems to be the norm apart from very large events like the November Classic. I felt a bit miffed at having to have a specific time at Greenham . This was because it was an Army championship and so they had to split up the Army guys. As it was I arrived early and was allowed to take the vacant space on my course. As Drobin says, its called flexibility
